The decision taken by franchises is based on political grounds rather than cricketing sense. They should be ashamed as they have hurt image of cricket as sport. At first, Indians made the fuss about visa clearance and then the security issues were raised. The IPL commissioner Lalit Kumar Modi is trying to deflect attention away from this issue. He claims that each team was having their own strategy during the auction. The key factor involved in the auction was availability of the players. The franchise owners have also agreed with Modi that the decision to snub Pakistani players was based on availability for the entire IPL season.

India and Sri Lanka will continue their battle for ODI supremacy when they clash in the final match of the Tri- nations Trophy in Dhaka. They have already played against each other twice in this event as well as faced off for nearly two months before that there are no secrets between the two teams. The ODI series in India showed that the team that keeps concentration on the day will end up holding the trophy.

The DRS allows each team to make three unsuccessful challenges within a match. Note that a successful challenge (call for a review) does not count which is fair enough since it’s an umpiring mistake. The umpire’s supremacy over the proceedings is ensured by the fact that it is the umpire who has to give the final decision. Also there is this ruling that in case of very close decisions, the on field decision is held supreme.

The Pakistan cricket team is regarded as the most inconsistent team in the cricketing world. But I want to go one step further to say that not only the performance of the national team has been unsteady but the affairs of the cricket authorities have also left a lot to be looked-for.

There is no guarantee that Yousaf will continue to lead Pakistan if the results of New Zealand Tests are not in favour of Pakistan. It is also obvious that the PCB would fall back on Younis given the swiftness of Ijaz Butt’s actions naming Yousuf as his successor. In the given scenario, yet another captain is likely to emerge on the surface for the Australia tour which follows immediately after the NZ series. The name of Misbah-ul-Haq can not ne ruled out in this context.

Pakistan captain Younus Khan finds himself under pressure as his team heads into the series-deciding third and final one-day against New Zealand. Under Younus, Pakistan lost the one-day series against Australia in the UAE and against Sri Lanka while touring the Island Nation earlier this year. Pakistan, who have not won a one-day series since beating the West Indies last year, achieved a thumping 138-run win in the first match thanks to efforts of Afridi, Latif and Kamran Akmal. However, they could not produce the same in the second match and ended up letting the Kiwis level the series. They now would now have to comeback hard to clinch the 3-match series.
