On Tuesday 10th November, BCCI announced a 15 member Indian cricket squad for home test series against Sri Lanka. The squad is led by Mahendra Singh Dhoni and it includes batsman Subramaniam Badrinath and left-arm spinner Pragyan Ojha. The selectors kept faith in trusted veterans Venkatsai Laxman and Rahul Dravid in an experienced batting line-up that features world-record holder Sachin Tendulkar, Virender Sehwag, Gautam Gambhir and Yuvraj Singh. The selctors also called fast bowlers Zahher Khan and Shanthakumaran Sreesanth.

Zaheer injured his shoulder during IPL in May and proved his fitness during domestic matches for Mumbai this month. He has claimed 210 wickets in 65 Test matches. He missed several important series including ICC Champions Trophy, Champions League T20 and ongoing ODI series against Australia.

Sreesanth played his last Test against South Africa 18 months ago. He was recalled in spite of being given a final warning by Indian cricket chiefs to improve his behaviour. His career has been stained by on-field peevishness and heated exchanges, forcing the Indian board to step in last month when he argued with rival players during a domestic match. Sreesanth was included as the third seamer behind Zaheer and Ishant Sharma, with the final choice depending on the wicket at Ahmedabad’s Motera stadium.

Indians have never lost a Test at home against Sri Lanka. The first Test in Ahmedabad will be followed by the second in Kanpur from November 24.
