Ross Taylor was in cavorting form as New Zealand crushed Bangladesh in the second ODI match in Dunedin today.
Taylor smacked 78 off 52 balls as the Kiwis sprint to their winning target of 184 with 5 wickets and more than 22 overs to spare. This win gave New Zealand the ODI series following their 146-run victory at Napier and the 10-wicket T20 win.
Taylor's strokes blossomed with 6 fours and 5 sixes in another display to confirm him as New Zealand's premier batsman. New Zealand put some good partnerships together after Brendon McCullum was out early again, cutting a ball on to his stumps.
Martin Guptill was cleaned out by Rubel Hossain for a swift 32 just after the 50 was posted. Peter Ingram continued his encouraging start, moving through to 28 before he was caught. James Franklin provided a sturdy partner for Taylor, content to turn over the strike and being unbeaten on 20.
Only a stubborn seventh wicket partnership of 101 runs between Naeem Islam and Mushfiuqur Rahim brought some respectability to the Bangladesh scoreboard of 183-8 after they were asked to bat. Just two other batsmen reached double figures.
On a wicket where Otago and Auckland had plundered runs in a recent domestic match, the Bangladesh batting was firstly miserable and then painfully slow through the middle stages before a late bout woke the decent-sized crowd. To get close to 200 was a miracle for Bangladesh because for a while 100 looked to be an impossibility for the tourists.
