England left hard pressed in their bids to save the first Test against Pakistan at Dubai Stadium Thursday, after it lost the key wicket of skipper Andrew Strauss.
Though Pakistan were dismissed for 338 in their first innings, the wicket fell even before England reached 16-1 at lunch.
England was left in a spot of bother, when the television umpire Steve Davis of Australia upheld the original decision, even though Strauss had challenged the verdict.
England, which now needs 130 runs to avoid an innings defeat, at the break had Alastair Cook and Jonathan trott batting on two and eight not out respectively.
