In a thrilling ODI cricket match, Indian side defeated South Africa by 1 run to secure a crucial 1-0 lead in the three-match ODI series.
The Indian victory came on the final delivery of the match when Wayne Parnell got run out after smashing 49 of 45 deliveries and South Africa were bowled out for 297 in reply to India's 298 for loss of 9 wickets. Parnell added 65 runs from 38 balls for the ninth wicket with Steyn who scored 35 runs of 19 balls to bring his team back into the game after dismissal of Kallis.
South Africa needed 40 runs of the last 18 balls but 49th over changed the situation significantly as it went for 16 runs. South Africa needed 10 runs of the last over with two wickets in hand. Praveen Kumar got rid of Steyn on the second delivery. The tail-enders kept up the pressure and the contest boiled down to the final delivery in which the visitors needed four runs. Kumar bowled a wide ball but the Proteas could only manage a single run on the last delivery.
Earlier today, India was put into bat by the Proteas after winning the toss. India were restricted to 298/9 in 50 overs. Suresh Raina remained top-scorer with 58 runs. However, Sehwag contributed 46 and Kartik scored 44 runs.
