Kiwis thump Zimbabwe at Whangarei

Cobham Oval saw New Zealand take an unprecedented lead of 2-0 as they defeated Zimbabwe for 141 runs.
In a high spirited match New Zealand valiantly forged out an innings of 372 for the loss of 6 wickets in their 50 overs. Zimbabwe replied though a lot meekly as they were bundled out for only 231 runs for the loss of eight wickets.
Rob Nicol steered New Zealand with an effective 146 runs off just 134 deliveries. Martin Guptill made a brisk 77 runs, Jacob Oram forged out 59 while Zimbabwean pacer Prosper Utseya bagged 3 for 71.
The best batting stats among the Zimbabweans was that of Elton Chigumbara who scored 63. TatendaTaibu scored 50 odd runs. Oram took 3 important wickets for 29 and Mills bagged 2 for 27.
Rob Nicol was awarded ceremonially kudos as the “Man of the Match” for his all-important fast paced century.
