Smith quits from T20 captaincy

Graeme Smith has quit as captain of South Africa's Twenty20 team with immediate effect and will step down as skipper of the ODI team after the 2011 World Cup.

Graeme Smith says that it is his intention to play for another five or six years and he knows that he can only do that if he give up some of his responsibilities. He was appointed captain in 2003 and he remained passionate about the team captaincy and would continue to lead the Test team with pride.

Cricket South Africa chief executive Gerald Majola said, "I always respected Graeme Smith and I respect him and support him now". Smith said he is at peace with his decision and is focused on winning the elusive Cricket World Cup 2011.
