The recurrence of the back and side problems is likely to stop Chris Tremlett from playing the second Test against Pakistan in Abu Dhabi.

Tremlett suggested that his omission was inevitable as he spent England's final net session sittion on a box of drinks.

After his back problem first appeared before last summer's Trent Bridge Test against India, it was the same injury that kept him out of England contention for nearly six months.

Strauss stated there was no cause to send Tremlett for a scan.

"He had a sore back and side yesterday," said Strauss. "He's going to have to bowl today before we know whether he's fit or not."
