Vettori out from first ODI against Australia

Vettori out from first ODI against Australia

New Zealand has been rocked by the late withdrawal of skipper Daniel Vettori with a neck injury for today's first one-day international against Australia in Napier.

Australia captain Ricky Ponting has won the toss and chosen to bat first in sunny conditions at Napier's McLean Park with high scores expected. Australia has left out pace bowler Clint McKay and included Ryan Harris.

Batsman Scott Styris replaces spinner Vettori in Taylor's side as he makes his debut as ODI captain. A team spokesman said Vettori had suffered a neck strain this morning and a decision was made less than an hour before the match to withdraw the skipper.
