Mitchell Johnson claimed match figures of 10 wickets for 132 runs to bowl Australia to a 2-0 series sweep over New Zealand. Australia won the second test by 176 runs.
Aussies set a world-record target of 479 to win. The Kiwis resumed on 5-185 and were bowled out for 302 before lunch. Mitchell Johnson continued his outstanding summer with 6-73 in New Zealand's second innings.
Brendon McCullum hit 9 fours and one six in his 51 before Doug Bollinger claimed his wicket caught at gully in the first over with the second new ball. Bollinger (2-87) struck again when Jeetan Patel (3) was caught at third slip.
Martin Guptill (58) also hit a half-century but falls to a neat catch from Ricky Ponting at second slip as Johnson took his fourth wicket of the innings at 8-273. Johnson ended the match by removing Brent Arnel for a duck and Tim Southee for an entertaining 45 from 25 balls. Johnson claimed the record of left-arm bowler to reach the 150-wicket milestone in the least amount of Tests (34) with his three wickets on Tuesday's fourth day of play.
Mitchell Johnson was later named man of the match. Johnson said he was looking forward to a short break before heading to the West Indies for the Twenty20 World Cup which starts on April 30.
Australian captain Ricky Ponting is keen to see pacers Peter Siddle and Ben Hilfenhaus back fully fit and pushing for places in the team before Ashes. Australia already have a compelling pace attack with Doug Bollinger and Ryan Harris providing a solid new-ball pairing and Johnson at first-change.
Ponting told media during press conference at Seddon Park after match, "We can't be any better placed at the moment. We have 2 Tests to play in England. There will be no justification for where we are sitting". In 8 Tests against West Indies, Pakistan and New Zealand this summer, Ponting's men have won 7 and drawn 1.
