Hobart Hurricanes, who saw off the Melbourne Renegades with a ball to spare at the Bellerive Oval in Hobart, have a lot to thank to Owais Shah, who held his nerve to seal a dramatic seven wicket victory.

Shah (49) and Phil Jaques (12), faced with a victory target of 174, saw the home side past the Renegades total with 10 runs in the final over of the match which was bowled by Sahid Afridi.

Afridi bowled wide out of off stump to hand victory to the Hurricanes with a wide, after Shah despatched the Pakistan bowler for a four through third man to leave the home side needing just one run from the final ball.

The defeat ended the Renegades faint hopes of reaching the KFC Big Bash semi finals despite an opening stand of 126 between Aaron Finch (67) and Brad Hodge (63).
