Aussies beat Caribbeans by 50 runs to wrap up the ODI series. It was a record run chase at the Gabba on Sunday as Australia did their best to win the ODI series.
Aussies set a target of 325 runs for the Caribbean side to win. The West Indies were only able manage 274 runs for loss of 8 wickets. Australia clinched the 5-match ODI series 3-0 with one ODI left.
Ricky Ponting's 106 off 112 balls lifted Australia to a record ODI total of 324 at the Brisbane ground. He set the stage with Cameron White (63 off 78 balls) in a 131-run, 3rd wicket partnership before late fireworks from James Hopes.
While skipper Chris Gayle (34 off 21) showed intent, the crowd sensed the Windies charge was over when he was caught behind off his bogey man Doug Bollinger (2-44) in the seventh over judging by their groans.
Narsingh Deonarine (53 off 69) showed some resistance, reaching his maiden ODI half century by thrashing Nathan Hauritz to the boundary - but next ball he was caught by Ryan Harris at long off.
Australia reduced West Indies to 146 for 6 in the 31st over. The West Indies innings was re-enforced by Keiron Pollard (62 off 55 balls) and Dwayne Smith (58 not out off 63). But their 102-run, 7th wicket partnership was too late for the team.
